Best time to visit Taiwan
The best time to visit Taiwan is during spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). This is when mild temperatures and blooming landscapes invite exploration, from vibrant cherry and peach blossoms in mountain parks to crisp, clear skies perfect for outdoor adventures.
In spring, trails at Alishan and Yangmingshan explode with pink blossoms and azaleas, while city gardens and festivals celebrate the season’s colors – just remember a light raincoat for occasional drizzles.
The summer months (June to August) bring warm air and humidity, tempered in the highlands of Taroko Gorge or Hehuan Mountain, where waterfall chases and misty peaks offer a cool retreat. Be aware, though, that typhoon season peaks July-September and afternoon thunderstorms are common.
For a very different experience, head south in winter (December to February). Northern nights dip to around 10 °C, but Beitou’s hot springs and the lantern-lit villages of Pingxi glow warmly, and Lunar New Year festivities enliven towns.
It’s wise to plan around Taiwan’s major holidays – Chinese New Year, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, and National Day to enjoy local traditions and book transport and lodging well in advance.
