Experience overview
This program visits Southeast Asia's most stunning temples, palaces, and ruins -- the remains of some of the world's greatest empires. Start with four nights in Bangkok, touring the city and nearby Ayuthaya. Touring includes the Royal Palace and the excellent National Museum. Travel to Sukhothai, Thailand's earliest capital; the region is a wealth of ancient temples and statuary. Next fly to Yangon to visit the Shwedagon Pagoda, the city's spiritual and social heart. Travel to Bagan for three days spent exploring the temples, pagodas, and remains of the awesome empire that once flourished on the banks of the Irrawaddy. Touring also includes Mt Popa, with its sweeping views and nat temples. Return to Yangon for one night to continue touring before heading to Cambodia. Fly into Phnom Penh and visit the National Museum and Silver Pagoda, teeming with Khmer art of the highest quality. Fly to Siem Reap for three days at Angkor, the jewel in Indochina's crown. Erected before 1150 AD, this temple-complex represents one of the most intricate and dramatic religious structures ever built by human hands. Finish your journey with one night in Bangkok before your international departure. (An optional beach extension can be arranged.)
