Zhaoxing: The Heart of Dong Minority Culture
Zhaoxing is renowned for its remarkable collection of five drum towers—one for each community within the largest Dong minority settlement in China. With around 4,000 residents, the village thrives on vibrant inter-community contests, where locals compete fiercely for pride and prestige.
Due to its remote location, Zhaoxing remains relatively untouched by mass tourism, making visitors a rare sight. However, a handful of guesthouses and souvenir shops serve the occasional tour group, mostly French travelers who venture off the beaten path.
While the town offers a pleasant atmosphere, it may not be as visually striking as nearby Chengyang, but it provides an authentic glimpse into Dong culture and traditions.
