Best Time to Visit North Korea
The most favorable seasons to explore North Korea are spring (April to June) and autumn (September to early October). In spring, you’ll see magnolia and azalea blooms around Pyongyang’s grand boulevards, while autumn brings crisp air and vibrant foliage across Mount Myohyang and the Kaesong countryside-ideal for walking tours and mountain hikes.
Summer (July-August) is warm, with occasional rain, making it a good time for coastal visits to Wonsan and Nampo, but inland humidity can be high. Winter months (November-March) are very cold, with temperatures often dropping below -10 °C (14 °F), so unless you’re keen on snow-clad landscapes and crisp air, it’s best to avoid these months.
When planning your trip, bear in mind important North Korean holidays – Day of the Sun (April 15), Liberation Day (August 15) and National Foundation Day (September 9)-as public ceremonies, parades and monument closures may affect your itinerary.
